About
Hello,
My name is Jean-Marc Bara. Photography allows me to share the world as I see it—a visual candy store filled with moments worth capturing. While street photography is my main focus, I also explore other genres. The galleries on this website reflect the themes that most captivate me, with people and design playing central roles in my work.
My friends often describe me as organized and passionate about order. For me, photography is not just an art form; it’s also a tool for understanding, structuring, and simplifying the world around me.
In my street photography, I aim to capture candid moments that intrigue, amuse, or provoke thought while maintaining a formal and aesthetically pleasing composition. I like American contemporary photographer Alec Soth’s wording of the key ingredients: Light, Moment, and Magic.
Since 2011, I have participated in juried shows and, more recently, international street photography competitions. For a list of awards, click here.
Current Projects:
“Light, Life and Lines”: A collection of urban street photography in color and black & white, where I use design and abstraction to bring order to the often chaotic urban environment. Work in progress can be seen on Instagram @candidstroller.
“People and Art”: Capturing the humor and gestures that arise when people interact with art in museums, galleries, and public spaces.
“Encounters with my Childhood”: Reconnecting with one of my fondest childhood memories—reading “The Adventures of Tintin.” I photograph Tintin characters in various cities, hoping to evoke similar nostalgia in viewers.
"Dancing Feet" - Slow shutter speed images focusing on the feet of ballroom dancers, capturing the rhythm and movement.
